Changes to the Ontario Autism Program – July 29, 2019

On July 29, 2019, the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services announced that they are taking a pause in rolling out the Ontario Autism Program in order to reset their efforts. To do this, the Ministry has provided new direction to the Autism Expert Panel to develop a sustainable needs-based program for families. Please see the Ministry’s website for details.

At Hands, we have always believed strongly in providing needs-based services and we welcome the government’s commitment to create a program that meets the needs of children, youth and families. We are currently accepting new clients for behavioural services and encourage families to contact us to create a service package that meets you where you are.

What do these changes mean for families?

Families already in service: Families who were already enrolled in services will receive a further extension of up to 6 months. Your clinical team will reach out to each family individually to discuss next steps.

Families not already in service: Childhood Budgets will continue to roll out. If you have not yet registered, please contact the Ministry’s Central Intake and Registration Team to register (1-888-444-4530). If you were registered for the Ontario Autism Program prior to April 1, there is no action required until you receive your letter to apply for your Childhood Budget.

We’re here for your #FamilyJourney. If you have any questions about the changes, or how Hands can help your family, please call us at 1.800.668.8555 ext. 1333.
