This group is suited for clients who have strong communication abilities (either word speaking or proficient AAC users), who are able to effectively share their own insights and opinions within a respectful group of peers who are jointly working to develop their self advocacy abilities and whom are keen to discuss topics of interest to adults with developmental disabilities.
Registration to this group will include a brief intake interview with a Communicative Disorders Assistant to ensure that clients are matched to the best communication skill building group for their strengths and goals. This group is less structured than our Communication Coffee Club, and led by the interests of the participants with facilitator support.
Learning Goals:
- To develop communication self-advocacy
- To practice debate skills and perspective taking
- To share personal experiences of disability and learn about topics of interest
When?
- This group meets bi-weekly (every other week) on Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m. (times/dates subject to change based on client availability)
