Community Justice Worker

Position Summary:

Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca is seeking a part-time Community Justice Worker (CJW) to work within the courthouses in Bracebridge, Huntsville, Parry Sound and Sunridge to assist the Crown in expediting processing of accused adult individuals who have committed minor offences. The purpose is to engage the accused in a variety of sanctions including restitution, apology, or community services rather than a lengthy and costly court process. The successful candidate will also provide support to the Youth Justice team members in the delivery of their program. The CJW accepts referrals from the court, promoting and delivering the Direct Accountability Program in the community.

Hourly Rate/Salary:

Minimum $25.99 to maximum $32.89 per hour; Salary commensurate with education and experience

Qualifications:

  • Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker or Community & Justice Service Worker Diploma;
  • One (1) year direct or two (2) years of related work experience;
  • Knowledge of district youth and adult justice, court processes, and restorative practices;
  • Experience in case management;
  • Experience working and collaborating with community agencies;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, networking skills and experience in public speaking;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently;
  • Good writing skills;
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and a variety of software packages;
  • Actively demonstrate an ongoing commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, clients and their families, visitors and volunteers;
  • Contribute and lead in the culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events for all in the organization;
  • Demonstrate ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality;
  • Successful applicants will be required to provide proof of eligibility to work in Canada prior to commencing work;
  • Preference will be given to bilingual (French/English) candidates;
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s licence and availability of a reliable motor vehicle; able to be insured on Agency’s vehicle insurance plan; and,
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector search.
