This group is for boys who struggle with emotion regulation, impulsiveness and/or are quick to anger. Using a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy approach, participants learn to  develop self-control, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and social skills. Sessions include identifying feelings, body cues, coping strategies, coming up with good plans to keep problems small, practicing Stop Now and Plan (SNAP) skills and developing social skills such as joining games/play, apologizing, being a good sport, and more. Caregiver sessions cover SNAP for Parents, tracking behaviors, giving effective directions, praise and other reward systems, effective consequences, and the P.A.S.T.E method of problem solving.

Caregivers are asked to attend virtual sessions with their child, attend caregiver sessions, and help youth complete home practice.

Sessions:

  • 12 weekly sessions (8- 5- hour sessions with youth and 4- 1.5-hour parent sessions).
  • Maximum 10 participants
  • Offered 3 times per year (fall, winter, spring)

How do I Get Started?

Most groups are available after you have attended an in-person or on-line Counselling Clinic appointment where you connect with a therapist who will listen to your concerns and help you choose the most suitable group. Some groups are available via direct sign-up.
