This group is designed to help parents and caregivers understand the causes of their child’s problem behaviors and learn ways to encourage more desirable behavior. Participants will learn about how to implement reward systems, give effective instructions, use positive discipline, and plan for risky situations. The group is organized into three separate streams: Standard, for parents and caregivers with children 2 – 10 years old; Teen for parents and caregivers with youth 10 – 17 years old; and Steppingstones, for parents and caregivers of children and youth with developmental disabilities.  It includes seven weekly sessions; the first four sessions are two-hours long and group-based. This is followed by two weeks of individualized phone sessions with a trained counsellor. The final session includes a return to a two-hour group discussion.

Typically delivered in a group setting; however, can be delivered individually.

How do I Get Started?

Most groups are available after you have attended an in-person or on-line Counselling Clinic appointment where you connect with a therapist who will listen to your concerns and help you choose the most suitable group. Some groups are available via direct sign-up.
